Fresh paint always brightens and brings to life a boring space. I often start with a white paint. I love how there’s so many variations of white undertones to get the right mood your looking for.

A single true white paint does not exist. There are yellow undertones and green or pink undertones. Whites can also look different depending upon how much natural light vs. artificial light is in the space. Plus, it will go with any decor you choose to put in the room. When I start with a white foundation, I can have fun adding pops of colors with rugs, art and textiles. It’s an instant update to immediately freshen up a space. The first factor to consider when picking a white paint is the undertone. If your looking for a cozy vibe choose whites that are mixed with reds, oranges, yellow, or browns. They have a warm undertone that, amazingly, radiates warmth. Whites that are blended with blues, greens, or grays have a cool undertone for a fresh, bright feeling. Natural light is the most important thing to consider in your decision making process. Walls will look totally different depending on how much natural light spills into the room and reflects off the walls. The more light will make your walls appear lighter. In this case choose a warmer undertone. If your looking for a blended white color that gives off warm and cool undertones use Snowbound by Sherwin Williams. One of my all time favorite go to color!

Different sheens also matter in a space. I almost never use Gloss paint. It shows imperfections and is almost impossible to paint over when you want to change colors. I often choose a matte or eggshell finish. It’s still easily wipeable, covers imperfections and can easily be painted over. Always bring paint swatches or test paints into your space to see what it will look like in your room. Fluorescent lighting gives a different look on the swatches as natural light would In the space your painting. Look at it morning, afternoon and night to make sure you choose the right shade you like from morning to night. here are a few more examples of some good white paint choices.
